Updating Domain Contact Information

Domain contacts identify who owns, manages, and pays for a domain. This article explains the four contact types Ascio requires and how to update them for your domains.

About domain contacts

Every domain has four types of contacts:

  • Registrant — the owner of the domain for the registration period. Registrant data may be reflected in the public WHOIS record and is validated or verified by the registry, so it needs to be accurate. Some TLDs require supporting documents to complete registration.
  • Administrative contact — appointed by the registrant to handle administrative matters and act on the registrant's behalf. Some registries require the administrative contact to be an individual, or to be the same person as the registrant.
  • Technical contact — appointed by the registrant to handle technical matters for the domain. The technical contact usually isn't authorized to make administrative decisions.
  • Billing contact — responsible for paying for the domain. For many gTLDs, the billing contact has no functional effect beyond record-keeping.

Before you begin

  • Access to the Ascio Partner Portal. You'll need your reseller login credentials.
  • The domain name whose contact information you want to update.

Step 1: Find the domain

  1. Sign in to the Ascio Partner Portal.
  2. Select Domains > Search from the left-side panel.
  3. Enter the domain name and select Search domains.
  4. Select the checkbox beside the domain name to open the Manage menu.

Step 2: Update the contact

  1. From the Manage menu, select the contact type you want to update.
  2. Update the required fields and select Submit.

Note: Contact detail requirements vary by TLD — some registries require specific formats or supporting documents. Check the TLD Kit in the Partner Portal for requirements specific to your TLD before submitting.
