Ascio offers three validation methods for SSL certificates, each verifying a different level of trust about your website and organization. This article describes each method so you can choose the right certificate for your needs.
About SSL validation
Validation is the process a certificate authority uses to confirm you control a domain, or that your organization legitimately exists, before issuing an SSL certificate. For background on what SSL certificates do more broadly, see What Are SSL Certificates?
Validation methods
Validation method | What it verifies |
Domain-validated (DV) | Confirms you control the domain the certificate is issued for. This is the fastest method to complete and the lowest level of trust. |
Organization-validated (OV) | Confirms domain control and verifies that your organization is a legitimate, registered business. |
Extended Validation (EV) | The most rigorous method — verifies your organization's legal, physical, and operational existence. EV certificates display your verified organization name in the browser. |
